• Re: How long will it be before a Mexican trucker is shot?

A Teamster spokeswoman said that the Administration kept this truck deal low profile (and out of the news) because Bush knows darn well Americans don't want an open border. I can't argue with that. My odds say that a Mexican trucker will kill somebody on the highway before one of them gets shot. If I was a Moslem murderer I'd learn Spanish, get a

  • CHEAP LABOR?

I am hearing the same rhetoric again: We need the cheap labor of illegal immigrants. The muddled logic goes something like this: Illegal immigrants do menial jobs Americans won't do. Farmers need this ready labor force to harvest fruit and produce in an economical and timely manner. The nice farmer and supermarket chains pass the savings on

  • Re: HAPPY LABOR DAY FROM NAFTA

The 9th Circut in San Francisco told the Teamsters & Sierra Club they didn't present enough evidence to stop the Mexican trucks at the border. But they can continue their case. The Administration argued that Mexican trucks must comply with our safety standards, the drivers must speak and read English to a minimum degree, and cargo will ...

  • Re: Power Disrupted 2 days in Rosamond - Edison Help Desk Personnel don't know why...

You have my sympathy. I am baffled why so many businesses serving the public have a problem with customer relations. (Re: Robin's blog about a movie theater experience.) The people at the help desk can only repeat what they are told. They are simply ''relay men.'' Apparently management cannot or will not anticipate reasonable questions ...

  • HAPPY LABOR DAY FROM NAFTA

I'm not a news junkie, though I try to keep up with current news fairly regularly. Here's something I learned by happenstance on a local radio station, not the usual news outlets--which makes me suspicious of our current administration: Effective Sept. 1, the Labor Day weekend, trucks from Mexico will no longer be required to drive over the ...

Wow! You must really like this guy! If my wife & teen daughter said I was ''compelling & heart-touching'' I'd go nuts trying to figure what I did right for a change.

  • Re: Imigration

The way it was explained to me, Columbus thought he landed in India, not a new continent. The people he met were, logically, Indians. And the misnomer stuck. American Indian was coined not to be confused with East Indian. Of late, Native American, predominately used in the USA, was invented to do away with Indian altogether. Whether this name
