A Teamster spokeswoman said that the Administration kept this truck deal low profile (and out of the news) because Bush knows darn well Americans don't want an open border. I can't argue with that. My odds say that a Mexican trucker will kill somebody on the highway before one of them gets shot.

I am hearing the same rhetoric again: We need the cheap labor of
illegal immigrants. The muddled logic goes something like this:
Illegal immigrants do menial jobs Americans won't do. Farmers need this
ready labor force to harvest fruit and produce in an economical and

You have my sympathy. I am baffled why so many businesses serving the
