I always avoid the mobs when new movies hit the screen and simply wait for the DVD. Much easier on the pocket book, a whole lot less stress, and the microwave popcorn is alot cheaper. So, I got manipulated into taking two teens to see Dark Knight last Saturday, anyway. Like, "tag...you're it" and I didn't know I was playing.
The line was not as long as it looked. About a 10 or 15 minute wait. The two kids went to get seats, I got delegated to buy the popcorn and drinks. What the heck, live it up. Two huge cokes and a tub of popcorn and why not? Throw in a couple of ice creams. "That will be $25," the cute counter girl cheerfully said. In a catatonic state, I laid down a twenty and a five.
When I got seated in the theater, I got told the movie is 2 1/2 hours. O.K. I can sit still that long. A word of advice: USE THE BATHROOM BEFORE THE MOVIE.
What can I say? It was a Batman movie. Darker and gloomier than the comic book stories I recall. Had a pretty high body count for a comic book character. Not sure I understood the ending. Seeing Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine was like watching old friends perform. Their limited roles were a waste of talent (in my humble opinion). The kids thought it was great. (With teens, it's either fantastic, o.k. or "gay.")
After the movie, it was, "Let's get some lunch." I left home with $60. I counted what I had left and a good time was had by all at Taco Bell.
