Taft City School District will hold it against you if you keep your child home sick. Even if your child takes a doctors note to school. So if the School Attendance Review Board (SARB) thinks your child has been home sick too often, they will require you to attend a meeting. During that meeting they will treat the parents with no respect and probably make the child cry. Roland Maier, the president of this board will not care if you have copies of the doctors notes or any other paperwork. He has an agenda and no-one else on the board will disagree with him. So once again I say be careful about keeping your kids home when they are sick. Taft City School District can't afford to have a child missing from class. Apparently someone on the SARB board can't make a luxury car payment if your child is absent.

School Funding

My kids attended a Panama-Buena Vista junior high school a few years ago, and I remember that junior high graduation was a very big deal to both of them. If the administrators had chosen to cancel graduation while sending all the administrators to Las Vegas (yes, I understand how the budget works; but get a clue about perceptions, people!) while my kids were there, we would have made a statement. I don't do picket lines. I would have kept my kids out of school on days scheduled for standardized testing and we would have gone to a movie instead. If enough parents show their displeasure by boycotting the tests, it will get their attention.

Graduations don't have to be expensive. They could be held at the school or on a high school athletic field.

Educational funding

News producers and news casters should have a basic understanding of school funding issues so that they do not give the public the wrong impression regarding how schools allocate their funds. Much of the funds schools receive are called categorical funds and can only be used for the purposes for which they are intended. Such is with the federal Title II funds that Panama-Buena Vista (PBV) is using to pay for a professional development opportunity for its teachers. Those funds may only be used for professional development and to help teachers become highly qualified. Your newscaster stated that PBV had "earmarked" funds for a professional development opportunity for its teachers when it had cancelled the 8th-grade graduation. This implied that the district chose to use the funds for the professional development instead of other educational issues, such as an 8th-grade graduation. I hope that this was truly a misunderstanding of how these funds can be used and not an intentional method of raising the ire of PBV parents.

if you are a graduate of public schools since elementary to secondary
level, do not be intimidated if you want to enroll in a business school.
After all, succeeding academically doesn’t depend on the school where
you came from, it depends on the determination of the individual
student. There are lots of students out there who graduated from
private schools but who have later on dropped out from college since
they can’t cope with the lessons and the pressure. But there are very
diligent graduates of public schools who have persevered their way through college and lead satisfying lives.

~~~TeenAnswers~~~
*Wisdom for Teens*
http://groups.google.com/group/TeenAnswers
http://communities.righthealth.com/group/sosmayday
http://groups.google.com/group/answers-for-teens
[~~~All groups:::5 permanent monographs & no chat~~~
like, "Who are YOU?!?" , "The useless War of the Sexes" and "LOVE is
the Real Thing".]
http://www.bev.net/users/homepages/JamesSorrell [My first web
page-2003]
Jim Sorrell [CaptainChurch]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Be a Good Neighbor~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Love your neighbour as yourself."--->>>means, see to it that your
neighbour has it just as good as you do, self-lessly!~~~

read. I got reintroduced to classics & books I'd never read. We had
short discussions of the material, I got involved in her school work
(some of it, anyway), and in class discussions she could make
intelligent comments about the book. When her required material got
more complicated in high school--what was Hemingway's motivation, what
was he really saying--we both relied on pinkmonkey.com, great student
site that explains books. Taking time to get involved with kid's
schoolwork takes time from things I'd rather be doing, but take my
word, it pays dividends.
