Re: Teen Challenge Exposed!
Andy Birkey, a reporter for the Minnesota Independent, has an interesting article about Jim Ramstad, the Minnesota Republican who is being considered for two positions in the Obama administration, either head of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) or head of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Looks like Ramstad has a pretty serious problem with one earmark he requested.
“Earlier this year, Ramstad sponsored a $235,000 earmark for the Minnesota Teen Challenge, an Assemblies of God drug treatment center with a history of controversial therapies and overt religious indoctrination.
MNTC is part of a national network of drug treatment and ‘discipleship training’ centers called Teen Challenge.”
With $5.7 million to lose in an investment scam, did they really need Ramstad’s $235,000 earmark?

Re: Teen Challenge Exposed!
Man, I have to say I agree with you and all the testimonies 100%.
I was at Teen Challenge in Brookings, SD. They make their cash by forcing the "students" to work at a place that makes Rainbow Playgrounds and work like robots assembling wood deck sections which resemble a shipping palette. The kicker is the student never sees any cash and doesn't receive a paycheck. The scam is that Rainbow play systems makes a "donation" to TC, a tax deduction who supplies the free labor. A win/win for TC and manufacturer, a big LOSE for the student. They also have this agreement with another place that makes windows and storm doors.
Their true character was revealed when I told them I wanted to leave. You see, they won't let you in the program unless you have money for return fare home. I believe the local government made them do this because students were walking off and stealing cars to get home. However, I was told that I could not have my money and was told the 125.00 for return fare was their FEE for driving me to the bus station where I was dumped penniless in the middle of the winter. Of course they didn't tell me this until we got to the bus station. I was under the assumption they would be purchasing the ticket for me.
You have to remember, the people that run these places actually believe a good portion of the crap they spew. Find a reporter who wants to take them down like you did in Florida. Keep it up man!

Re: Teen Challenge Exposed!
I had to reply after seeing your page online about Teen Challenge and it's un-seen things that really do go on! I graduated from the Program in 1990, started in Lebanon Orgeon in July of 1989, and then went to the Riverside Chapter in November of 1989. I have first hand experience of the stuff that went on there on a regular basis. My parents decided to enroll me into the program, based on a revival meeting we went to when I was a senior in Highschool. We saw Nicky Cruz - so my parents said I was going. There was a one month wating period where I couldn't talk to any of my family, 15 minute phone calls, once a week. Working on the Car Wash crew at the Riverside Auto Auction every morning, in the burning heat, not getting once cent for our work, going out to sell tickets for their monthly pancake breakfasts/fund raisers. Having to work the "catered" dinner banquets for the people who gave their money to Teen Challenge.. IT was humiliating. Some of the staff were nice, and good to be around, but the majority of the staff were on some sort of power trip! The weekly services that were held there, were as you say, a circus side show, jumping, yelling, out of control students and leadership. After my first month at Riverside, I got plugged into the music team and choir. The choir director was pretty cool, as was the music leader. They were actually very genuine people. And I always think of them in a positive way whenever I think about my time there. However, in the time that I was there, there was alot of brainwashing going on. You were correct in saying that! Seeing people that I was becoming friends with, were being told that if you leave the program, your damning yourself to hell! So what if your family wants you back, or if your marriage is falling apart while your in the program, they say that you should just stay there and wait it out! How ridiculous is that? I know for a fact that when David Wilkerson started Teen Challenge back in the 60's, this is not what he had in mind. The Assemblies Of God have tainted this mission of Reverend Wilkerson & Nicky Cruz! I grew up in an A.G. church for many years, and saw alot of the same things in my Teen Challenge days. There is even a man in Portland Oregon who was a director for their Portland Chapter, and after several years of inpropriaty, lies, legalistic, and the desire for the allmighty dollar, he left the organization and started his own recovery program. Away from the evil clutches of Teen Challenge and The Assemblies Of God! I feel that there were some good qualities about Teen Challenge in Riverside California, as I'm sure there are other centers that are okm too. But my personal experience and first hand knowledge of what was going on behind closed doors, leaves me no alternative. Teen Challenge is a corrupt program, with people that have been placed in leadership roles, that do not belong there, nor do they have any business of being anywhere near helping those who really need help! About 2 years ago, I had seriously considered going back through the program in Riverside. I was told that when I graduated back in 1990, that if I ever wanted to come back to the Castle, I could do so. I was even told that I could go to any Teen Challenge center I wanted to if their was an opening and help out as an intern. After speaking with the assistant director : Rob Metcalf, of the Orange County Teen Challenge, which he and I attended the very same Riverside Teen Challenge together back in 1989-1990- he told me that I would not be welcomed at Teen Challenge. That I wasn't eligible to come through.. Apparently I was either some sort of leper.. or that I really knew too much about how things really worked there. They are hipocrytes! I was looking for help, but was turned away. and really, I was glad they told me that.. They havent changed at all.. As I'm sure people will form their own ideas about Teen Challenge, and before you people judge this persons idea and negative report, please consider someone elses experience before you do so! I have been through it all, and have seen it all while in that program. Their are many other drug rehab programs that can help people and be much more beneficial to them.
I will be happy to field your questoins, commmnets, frustrations, or whatever.
I look forward to hearing from you!

Re: Teen Challenge Exposed!
Ensley, they still do the banquets and the mobile car wash at Riverside. My roommate got walking pneumonia from washing cars in sub-freezing temperatures, and Montoya gave him four days to get better or get out (Jeez, would I love to see Montoya on the street sometime).
Metcalf is the poster boy on their website. The fact that he's still employed by Teen Challenge after all this time shows that he lacks the ability to get a real job.
We had a guy named Rob Metcalfe (aka Fat Slob Metcalfe) at Riverside when I was there. Almost the same name, save the "e". One day a few of us were discussing women, and how difficult they can be at times. FSM told us that if you "find a good Christian woman, your problems will be over." I asked him if he knew that the divorce rate among Christian couples was higher than that of atheistic couples (it is), and he accused me of being "in league with Satan."
At Teen Challenge, the truth is "Satanic."

Re: Teen Challenge Exposed!
Moving-Earth DECEPTION!!
There is something about Space that 'THEY' don't want you to KNOW :
The Earth is NOT Moving!!
( "The Sun, Moon and Stars are going around a stationary Earth just as observed and just as the Bible says." )
True, NON-HYPOTHETICAL Science ( observational data, our senses, physical experiments and logic ) CONTRADICTS the assertions of Mainstream Science's existing DECEITFUL, FRAUD-RIDDEN, Unscientific, State-funded Model of the Universe derived from the Mystical Zohar/Kabbala of the Pharisee RELIGION. Moreover, the Intelligible Christian Bible's Voluntarily-funded Geocentric/Geostatic Model of the Universe proclaims:
The Sun's Path Orbits the Earth Daily and The Earth is NOT Moving.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* There is NO proof that the Earth rotates on an "axis" daily and orbits the sun annually. None
* All calculations for eclipses, the space program, navigation, satellite movements - anything that demands precision and accuracy - are based on a non-moving Earth. Boiled down, heliocentric math is the same as Geocentric [ also called Geostatic ] math.
* NO EXPERIMENT HAS SHOWN THE EARTH TO BE MOVING ( much less at 30 times rifle bullet speed in solar orbit and at 250 times RBS around a galaxy. One would think such speeds would flap one's collar a little even if the "science" establishment says no! )
* Multiple experiments have shown the Earth to be stationary.
* Revisionist history reveals the roles that Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, Newton, Einstein, Sagan et al have played in foisting this LIE on mankind.
* The logic against a moving Earth is overpowering.
* WORLD-CLASS astronomer Sir Fred Hoyle said take your pick between the two models.
* Copernicanism paved the way for Darwinism ( which then spawned Marxism, Freudism, Einsteinism and Saganism ).
* Star speeds are not a problem when the thickness of the universe is seen to be what it really is, that is, LESS than half a light day thick ( eight billion mile radius ).
* NASA's space program is labeled "Origins Research" and costs taxpayers mega-bucks. Computerized telescopes are programmed to send back "synthesized images". The "image warper" permits "geometric transformations" while "origins technology... configures the multiple small mirrors..." in these telescopes. Talk about a con job!
The Bible says [ 67 Scriptural references] The Earth is NOT Moving and cannot be moved. What'll it be folks? False science as the source of absolute truth . . . or God's Word?

Daniel M:
I went through Teen Challenge and am still drug-free (I do drink). I am now a happy atheist who can confirm the total bulls**t of their statistics.
Most atheists are happy, because they have freed themselves from the bondage of religion.
Atheists make up just 0.2% of the prison population in the U.S., while Christians make up 75%. They have reason to be happy.

God is used as a punishment rather than a good thing at Teen Challenge.
How can these programs be court appointed when they do not offer medical or anything? I am all for God but God not used as punishment.

Re: Teen Challenge Exposed!
It is not my intention to be a late responder however. I've just noticed over the past year. Your articulation. In regards to teen challenge. You claim to have firsthand knowledge and insight as to the workings of this program. However, you speak as someone else that has gone through this ordeal, which would lead one to believe that you have no idea of the subject in which you are speaking on for one to be an effective drug counselor are to understand the acts best of drug use. You must have been a user which you clearly were not. Though I have never been any drug program myself. I have been abused by one as a physically challenged American, while Gore into a crisis back in 2001. Took advantage of me, while on mind altering medications in the name of Christ in their drug program I were swindled out of my home for it to be sold at a profit in the program shut down. Along with supporting the abuse and negligent death of my grandmother by the same family members in which owns this drug program. As my grandmother was a missionary ID and this program used to name the far lower for his manipulatives itself gaining notice. And now these people have the nerve to brag about and be the owners of our only local wing stop restaurant. They were so crooked. They even took out an extra insurance policy on my grandmother, which paid out and to this day two years later, she still does not even have a headstone on her grave. Nor is there any sign of the home, in which they swindled me out of and by the way. This family member in the Department of human services worker. Someone is supposed to stand up for the abuse and other privileged. But yet she exploits them in the name of God, along with their mother and aunts to continue I am not trying to give wings to a bad name however, these crooked owners that are here in current counting need to be exposed for who they are using the name of our Lord to take advantage of other people. I can go on and on about these misleading God oriented Christian groups. However, I shall not the best word spoken. Are those that are unspoken. I encourage you until fingers me keys once again, to have a blessed day and a wonderful life I truly thank you for your time and consideration of this articulation.

Re: Teen Challenge Exposed!
I don't know how all locations are, but what I saw/heard of the one in Shafter was awful. A friend of mine was admitted there...keep in mind, he was never a criminal. He's never been arrested. His parents simply thought he was too lazy, so they sent him there because he wouldn't go out and look for a job. When I went to visit him, people were very nosey and somewhat rude. He snuck me up to the living quarters (this is very much frowned upon by them) and I was greeted by rows of cots and dressers and a large gym-like shower. Every dresser (which was shared by two people each) was adorned with two big Ziploc bags full of yellow pills. He told me they were One-A-Day dietary supplements, but I'm skeptical. The workers "swept" the quarters daily and if they found anything nonsecular (music, books, etc.), they would throw them away and revoke bahtroom or phone privileges. Fairly big punishment considering that they got 15 minutes per day for the bathroom and 30 minutes per week for the phone.
He may have been making it up, but he told me that several of the men (there were only three or four teens) would speak in tongues in the middle of the night. He also claimed that they were taught how to smell evil and rebuke people of their demons. As outlandish—and...well, insane—as this sounds, I'm not making this up in an attempt to slander the establishment. I am not just a "mudslinging heathen" as one of them called me. I don't agree with Christian beliefs, but I respect the people (my wife's family is Christian and I love them dearly). Teen Challenge, however, distorted these beliefs and brainwashed the men. They also made me out to be an evil person just because I don't share their beliefs.
My friend wasn't allowed to leave at his own will, so when he finally snapped out of it and decided he wanted to leave, another friend and I basically had to break him out. We picked a day and time to visit and left the car running in the parking lot. When it was clear, we grabbed his things and got out of there. He was homeless for a month or two and it was even longer before his state of mind returned to normal, but he was always grateful to us for getting him out of there. It's great to have programs, but they are going about it in all of the wrong ways. Instead of preparing people to re-enter society, I felt like they were creating axe murderers who will kill in the name of whatever they perceive to be a god (sounds a bit like Frailty). I would be happy to see this place shut down.

Re: Teen Challenge Exposed!
This post ought to be Michael Kincheloe exposed. All you have to do is google him and you'll find out that this is not recent. My son went through T.C. with him and knows that Mr. Kincheloe is not what he portrays nor is the Teen Challenge he "exposes". There are people who would rather go back to prison than stay in the program because it is not a vacation. In prison you don't have to deal with any of your problems and you won't get clean. Mr. Kincheloe believes that T.C. should be a free ride and that society should pay all the debt for his issues (which aren't all addiction related.) Working and leading a disciplined life are part of overcoming addiction and are part of real life. Mr. Kincheloe seems to have a lot of time on his hands to be able to continue to target T.C. after all these years and I doubt he has real job. It sounds like an obsession which would point to his other issues

Re: Teen Challenge Exposed!
You weren't a mudslinging heather you were just not a family member. No one is allowed to visit that isn't a family member. Your friend was violating the rules which are set in place for a very good reason. For all they know you were a dealer. No one is brainwashed there. Everyone can leave of their own free will. If they catch you, of course they're going to try to talk you out of it but they won't prevent you. All you have to do is look at their entry and exit logs. You would like to see it shut down but there aren't any programs out there that even come close.
