Recent statistics show 29% of Bakersfield's childrne live in poverty, 62% of our children lack basic academic skills often resulting in high school drop outs, and 32% of our adult population lacks a high school level education. The temptations of gangs, drugs and crime are a reality, especially for our children. Because children are the future of this community and education is their most important tool, we founded Bridging the Gap to REach, Touch and empower a community for Change.

In conjunction with a facility located in the heart of Bakersfield's crime belt, Bridging the Gap opened it's doors in November 2007 welcoming children of all ages to its After School Programs.

In 2008 we will be expanding to include a family mentoring program which will include home visits for those interested in additional help. We will also continue our Food Bank, Back to School Supply Program and Christmas Giving program to bolster and bless the families in this community where the need is so great.

Evening is offering silent auction, video and chldren from the after-school program are singing for your entertainment.
