The Dore' Theatre will be alive with the hand-clapping and foot-stomping of soulful gospel music CSUB hosts a half-day gospel workshop followed by an evening performance.
The workshop is free and the evening concert is open to the public. The $10 admission price benefits scholarships to the CSU Summer Arts program. Tickets are available at the door.
"Singers and choral directors will be immersed in a half-day music workshop to strengthen vocal technique, performance, interpretation, improvisation, and choral directing," said Eveelyn Coyle, event organizer and gospel singer. "it will be an engaging, educational and inspirational day and we encourage anyone interested in gospel music to attend."
The workshop and concert are a preview of the CSU Summer Arts program. "Gospel Singing and Conducting Made Easy: Break It Down for Us" which will be offered June 29 through July 12 at the CSU Fresno campus. The intensive summer program is one of many perfomance and graphic arts courses offered by the CSU.
The CSU summer workshops are taught by master teachers and professional artists and performers. The gospel workshop will be taught by contemporary Christian music pioneer Edwin Hawkins, composer of "Oh, Happy Day." The CSU Fresno summer porgram is open to all interested persons who are 17 years of age and older.
