Emmy Censors Speeches

Gone but not forgotten. "The Sopranos" claimed its final Emmy as best dramatic series last night. "30 Rock" won for best comedy. Tina Fey, the show's star and creator, acknowledged the show's low ratings by thanking its "dozens and dozens of viewers."

Sally Field was honored as best actress in a drama for "Brothers and Sisters." But her speech was bleeped out at one point by the Fox censors for using a swear word during an anti-war rant. The censors also bleeped presenter Ray Romano and "Grey's Anatomy" supporting actress winner Katherine Heigl.

Edited From the Chicago Sun Times:

Heigl, Izzie on "Grey's Anatomy," won best supporting actress in a drama. The camera flashed to her in the audience in time to catch her saying "s---," though you didn't hear the word, and the director switched to a different camera in silence.

Ray Romano joked that his ex-TV wife Patricia Heaton will soon be sleeping with Kelsey Grammer on a new Fox show, but whatever word Romano used for "sleeping" was too much for Fox, which silently cut away from him.

Sally Field of "Brothers & Sisters" won for dramatic actress and went on what seemed to be a giddy war rant: "Lets face it. If mothers ruled the world, there would be no godd---" ... something-something. Her voice got muted, and the camera switched off of her.

What do you think?  Are the censors being too sensitive in the post Superbowl Janet Jackson era?  Or are they right to protect families and kids?

I have a son in the Air Force and has spent 2 tours of duty in Iraq and 1 in Afghanistan, I resent her remarks.  My honest opinion of most of the entertainment people is that they have more money than brains, they should stuff some of that money in their mouths so there words don't come out.  They will be the first ones to complain "we should have seen it coming" when the terroist come back to this country.  Like my son said "we are keeping them busy over here so they stay away from our home land."

I heard from a news source that Emmys had lowest viewer rating than ever. I'm not surprised; I didn't watch it. Vulgarity & profanity does not offend me as much as other people I know. I try not to use it. Such language at any formal awards cermony (Friars Roast an exception, perhaps) takes away from the dignity of the event and shows a lack of class. But we're talking Hollywood celebs. Most of them are in their own isolated bubble, out of touch with the real world, but know how to run it.
