FBI special agent Richard Novelli testified Thursday morning about how he dismantled the engine compartment of the Dodge Neon Vincent Brothers rented in Ohio. Novelli was initially called out by Bakersfield police to collect insects from the radiator, air filter and other engine components. But his initial attempts to pry the bugs loose with forceps ended with the bugs breaking apart. Prosecutor Lisa Green says an entomologist examined the engine parts and discovered bugs (like a grasshopper) that only live west of the Rockies. None of the other car renters said they took the car out of the Midwest, so Lisa Green says this indicates Brothers must have been the one to do so. She says Brothers drove the car back to Bakersfield, in particular, to murder his family. Defense attorneys have their own experts who may refute the entomologist's findings.
The entomologist works at UC Davis. Her name is Lynn Kimsey. She is set to testify the week of April 2, next week as of this writing. Checkout the link to her bio: http://entomology.ucdavis.edu/faculty/facpage.cfm?id=kimsey
