The jurors fanned out across the lawn of the home at 901 3rd Street. Close to 4 years ago, it was scene of a quintuple homicide. Some of the sod in the front yard has died, leading to an odd, maze-like design. The bushes are different, and inside the home there’s new carpet and a fresh coat of paint. You can smell the new paint as soon as you walk in the door.
We in the media had to stand across the street and watch from afar. Some of the jurors spent most of their time inside the house. Others walked down the street and stood in front of the home where one witness said he was standing when he spotted Brothers in front of the Harper home a few days before the murders. Another juror stood between the backyard fence of the Harper home and neighbor’s brick wall with his arms stretched out. He looked like he was trying to gauge the distance. The attorneys stood outside and watched the jurors as the pored over the home. The walkthrough was a chance for the jurors to see for themselves the layout of the home.
Esther Quiroz continued her testimony this afternoon, saying she had sex with Brothers in at least three different homes that he owned. But under questioning by the defense, Quiroz was hard pressed to recall the exact dates. The prosecution plans to put several other women on the stand who also say they were having an affair with Brothers while he was married to Joanie Harper. But the defense cried foul, saying the judge had limited prosecutor Lisa Green as to how many witness she could put on the stand to testify on that issue. Green said she was being fair because she "could call a half dozen other women during Brothers' first marriage who would also say they were having a sexual relationship with Vincent Brothers." The defense said Green was trying to violate the court's previous order.
