A woman took the stand this afternoon and testified she had an affair with Vincent Brothers, but that Brother never told her he was married to Joanie Harper. Quiroz says she met Brothers in 1993 at Emerson Middle School.
Quiroz characterized their relationship as “merely sexual.” She said they were having sex in 2000 and 2001 when Brothers was married to Joanie. Quiroz knew Brothers had children. He told her Marques was most likely his biological son, but he indicated Lyndsey Harper was not his daughter. Marshall Harper hadn’t been born at that point. But Quiroz said she did witness Brothers around his oldest daughter Margaret. She said he acted like his father and admitted that he was. Vincent Brothers said he didn’t want to marry Joanie, he wanted to marry another woman, Carla Tafoya. Brothers said Joanie was just an ‘OK individual,’ and that he was falling in love with Carla.
Quiroz says she didn’t talk to anyone else about her sexual relationship with police because it was personal. Sparks flew in the courtroom when Michael Gardina said in front of the jurors that Quiroz had no credibility. The judge cleared the courtroom and admonished Gardina for the comment. The judge would admonish Gardina again outside the presence of the jury at the end of the day for using the phrase ‘Uh-huh’ after Quiroz responded to his questions. Green said it sounded like Gardina was casting doubt on Quiroz’s responses. The judge reminded both sides to keep their commentary to themselves. He said sanctions are a last resort, but they are an option.
